BBC Three is to be shut down for a SECOND time as BBC chiefs hunt £500m in savings

BBC Three's most-watched show on Monday night was a repeat of an old Top Gear episode, seen by around 77,000 people. Director-general Matt Brittin will close the channel, BBC Scotland and Radio 4 Extra in spring 2027, and around 100 BBC News jobs are also going. Yet the three closures will save less than £10m a year. Only around £200m of the £500m target has reportedly been found so far.

BBC Three went online in 2016, returned in 2022 and is now heading back online.

Scottish Culture Secretary Mairi McAllan called the BBC Scotland closure 'wholly unacceptable' and will take it to Ofcom.

BBC Scotland's nightly 'Reporting Scotland: News at Seven' will end rather than move to iPlayer.
