SeaWorld San Diego investigates sudden death of beluga rescued from Canada's Marineland after four others died in Chicago

Cyprus, a nine-year-old male beluga, refused food in the two days leading up to his death on Sunday — arriving less than two months after he had been brought to California. Veterinarians detected gastrointestinal failure on ultrasound and monitored him overnight, but could not save him. He had made the 2,500-mile journey from the now-closed Niagara Falls park in August, travelling with two other belugas, Xavier and Jasper.
Marineland closed this summer after financial difficulties and sustained criticism of the conditions in which it kept its belugas.
A complete necropsy is scheduled, with findings to be submitted to US regulator NOAA.
Before falling ill, Cyprus had been 'doing well' and engaging with trainers during play sessions.
