Q actor Ben Whishaw says Bond 'needs to be reinvented completely' as the hunt for the next 007 nears its end

Ben Whishaw, 46, who played MI6 tech wizard Q across three Daniel Craig Bond films, has confirmed he will not return for the franchise reboot and says he rarely thinks about his time on the series. He called Q's homosexuality "unsatisfying" because a brief date reference in 'No Time to Die' was never followed up. Amazon MGM Studios, which took full control of the franchise last year, now has auditions under way for the lead role.
'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight will write the new Bond script, with Denis Villeneuve directing and Amy Pascal producing.
Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Josh O'Connor are among the stars reportedly in contention to replace Craig as 007.
Whishaw dismissed the swirl of casting rumours as "deliberate hype — it's a ploy to create suspense and glamour, but it's kind of fun."
