Birkenhead and Wallasey led Britain's most competitive rental markets this summer, with each available home drawing an average of 30 enquiries across July and August, according to Rightmove data spanning 1,000 locations. Carlisle came third at 29 enquiries per property, ahead of Glasgow at 28 and East Kilbride at 27. The North West dominated the top 10, claiming six of the spots, while Scotland recorded the highest average competition of any region at 19 enquiries per property.
Rightmove puts average advertised rents across Britain at £1,580 per month.
This summer each rental property attracted 11 enquiries on average nationally, one fewer than a year ago but still well above the pre-pandemic figure of eight.
Rightmove's Colleen Babcock warned that despite improving supply, 'there are still locations where each available home attracts high numbers of enquiries.'
