Boarding school teacher, 92, 'orchestrated' the rape of a boy by an older pupil while he watched, court hears
Derek Barker, a 92-year-old former teacher at Monkton Combe School in Bath, Somerset, is on trial at Bristol Crown Court charged with eight sexual offences against four boys, the alleged abuse spanning the 1970s and 1980s. A police video interview played to the jury heard the first complainant describe being summoned to Barker's private flat, where an older pupil raped him while Barker looked on and masturbated. The charges include three counts of buggery, three of indecency with a child and two of indecent assault, all denied by Barker.
The victim told police: 'It hurt and I was frightened, I knew it was wrong but there was nothing I could do.'
The older boy responsible for the rape had died before police opened their investigation, the court heard.
Defence lawyer Tabitha Macfarlane told the court that Barker denies being present, denies masturbating and denies organising any of the incidents.
