Bollywood actor Imran Khan is to challenge his expulsion from India in court after being ordered to leave for joining election protests

Indian authorities have given Aamir Khan's nephew, actor Imran Khan Pal, until October 28 to leave India after he joined a Mumbai protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan, a US citizen holding an Overseas Citizen of India card, was detained on October 10 during the demonstration at August Kranti Maidan before being released. His legal team at MZM Legal LLP plan to file an urgent petition in the Bombay High Court on October 16, arguing no law prohibits OCI cardholders from attending protests. The case returns Khan to headlines just as he is making an acting comeback via a Netflix film after more than a decade away from screens.
The FRRO notice cites Sections 7 and 29 of India's Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, but Khan's lawyers say it fails to specify which provisions he actually violated.
BJP politician Kirit Somaiya triggered the crackdown by filing a police complaint demanding Khan's arrest and deportation over what he called an 'illegal political agitation'.
Khan posted a photo of himself in the police van captioned 'Apparently I'm going for a drive', which went viral after his detention.
