Bolt has unveiled a partnership with US electric vehicle maker Lucid, targeting a minimum of 25,000 fully autonomous vehicles across European roads by 2035. The cars will be derived from Lucid's forthcoming midsize platform and run on Nvidia's Hyperion hardware. The agreement represents Lucid's largest robotaxi commitment to date and forms part of Bolt's broader goal of deploying 100,000 self-driving vehicles on its platform by the same year. No firm orders have been placed and no money has changed hands.
The vehicles will operate at SAE Level 4 autonomy, a standard at which human intervention at the wheel is not required.
Bolt CEO Markus Villig said the two companies will co-design both the vehicle and its software, drawing on the operational data Bolt has accumulated over a decade of service in more than 850 cities.
Any rollout hinges on European regulators granting approval, and both companies have committed to engaging with governments and policymakers across the continent.
