Paramedics attending a property on Reedville in Oxton, near Birkenhead, on Saturday afternoon alerted Merseyside Police after discovering a man in his 20s dead inside. Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers removed unspecified 'substances' from the house as a precaution, and police have confirmed the public faces no broader risk.

Neighbours described more than 20 police vehicles descending on the normally quiet, affluent Victorian street, with forensics officers working through the night.

A bodybag was seen being removed from the property on Sunday, with officers expected to remain on the scene for at least two more days.
