Two people — one man and one woman — were arrested after Essex Police forced entry to a property on Sawyers Grove, Brentwood, at 7.20am on Friday following reports of a damaged door during a neighbour dispute. Inside, officers discovered several suspicious items requiring specialist assessment, prompting a 100-metre cordon and the evacuation of around 40 homes as a precaution.

A bomb-disposal robot was deployed at the scene as experts worked to identify the objects.

The street sits metres from St Thomas of Canterbury Church of England Primary School, though half-term meant no children were in class.
