Boy, 14, electrocuted in puddle as Istanbul's worst flooding since 1942 kills two and shuts the city

A 14-year-old boy was electrocuted after stepping into a floodwater puddle in Istanbul's Balat area and could not be saved despite being rushed to hospital, as record-breaking rainfall killed two people and plunged Turkey's largest city into chaos. Istanbul governor Davut Gul confirmed the flooding is the heaviest since records began in 1942, with three further people hospitalised and schools shuttered until Monday.

Dramatic footage showed lines of parked cars swept into torrents of muddy water in the Sariyer district, while residents were hauled to safety through first-floor windows.
