Boy, 16, and pensioner, 80, are killed when a light aircraft crashes 20 minutes after leaving Glasgow Airport

The Piper Tomahawk II, registration G-LFSU, is linked to Leading Edge Flight Training, which has bases at Glasgow and Cumbernauld airports. It stopped transmitting at 4.37pm on Friday, and police were alerted to the crash north-east of Drymen, Stirling, eight minutes later. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Air Accidents Investigation Branch inspectors have travelled to the site near Loch Lomond.

The plane had already flown from Cumbernauld and made a two-hour round trip to Newport on Tay that day.

Glasgow Airport boss Gavin Birch-Williams called it 'a deeply tragic event'.

Police have closed the airspace over Drymen, including to drones, and warned that breaching it is a criminal offence.
