The 16-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, died alongside Ian Haggis when their Piper Tomahawk II came down near Drymen on Friday. The pair took off from Glasgow Airport at 4.17pm, and the plane stopped transmitting 20 minutes later. Their flight school has paid tribute to both. The plane is registered to Leading Edge Flight Training in Renfrew.

Haggis was known to students as the 'Flying Haggis' and called 'a very experienced aviator'.

One friend wrote: 'What a legend. Only God knows what happened.'

Air accident investigators are at the scene, and the plane is around 45 years old.
