A three-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after a medical emergency at Cosy Toes nursery on Mainway East, Middleton, at around 3.50pm on Monday. Greater Manchester Police confirmed today that enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing.

An air ambulance landed on a nearby grass verge, alongside three police cars, an ambulance, and a rapid response paramedic car.

Cosy Toes is part of a chain running four nurseries across Middleton, providing daycare for children aged up to five.

GMP's initial statement said only that a child had been taken to hospital; the boy's age and critical condition were not disclosed until Tuesday.
