The mother of a 16-year-old boy on trial for the attempted murder of a classmate told King's Lynn Crown Court her son sent her an "I'm sorry" message shortly after the attack at Thorpe St Andrew School near Norwich on 11 March. She said he had "seemed normal" that morning, left in his school uniform at the usual time, and only learned something was wrong from a school Facebook group. When she rang him, he said "nothing good" had happened and that he had "hurt someone." He then told her he could see police near the school and would walk towards them.

The defendant, who cannot be named, has pleaded guilty to possessing a kitchen knife and wounding with intent but denies attempted murder.
