Bradford girl, 6, who asked her veteran dad for a 'poppy shop' launches this year's Poppy Appeal in Manchester

Ivy Knighton-Leake was handed a special poppy forged from the metal of Second World War Spitfires by Private Katie Brazier, 22, of the Royal Anglian Regiment. Her father Steve Knighton, 41, served six years in the Royal Signals. The Royal British Legion helped him adjust to civilian life. This year's appeal, aimed at armed forces families, hopes to raise more than £50 million.

Steve Knighton said he owes the Legion 'a debt' and is 'paying it back'.

Ivy described her dad as 'funny, caring, kind and bad at story time'.

Three more Spitfire poppies went to forces families in North Wales, Shropshire and London.
