Bradford is to get a new railway station at the heart of Northern Powerhouse Rail, but not until the 2030s

Northern Powerhouse Rail was first proposed in 2014, and Bradford passengers now face years more waiting for the replacement for the 1970s Bradford Interchange. Its bus station shut for a year after a chunk of concrete fell from a car park roof. Ministers still have not decided whether trains will run through the new station or keep reversing out. Transport secretary Heidi Alexander called it 'an important milestone'.
Stephen Place, Reform UK's leader of Bradford Council, hailed 'a major milestone for Bradford and the North'.
Mayor Tracy Brabin called the confirmation of the £45bn scheme's station an 'iron-clad commitment'.
Ministers promise a 'turn-up-and-go' railway where passengers won't need to check a timetable.
