Brazil will go to the polls on Sunday as Flavio Bolsonaro bids to oust Lula in a dead-heat runoff

Tens of thousands of red-clad supporters packed Rio's Copacabana beach on Saturday, hoping to carry 80-year-old Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to a fourth term. A Datafolha poll has him tied with Flavio Bolsonaro at 50 per cent each. No first-round loser has bounced back since democracy returned in the 1980s. Nearly 159 million Brazilians are due to vote.

Jair Bolsonaro, serving 27 years for a coup plot, told his son: 'Let's go, it's you.'

In the final debate, Flavio apologised for saying Lula 'takes away with nine fingers'.

Trump has largely kept quiet, though he called Flavio's first-round result 'a very big victory'.
