Brazil will vote on Sunday as Lula, 80, battles to avoid defeat by Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the coup-convicted ex-president

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, 45, has pledged to release his father Jair, who is serving a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup and is under house arrest. He won the first round 47% to 45% on 4 October. No first-round loser has ever come back to win. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 80, is seeking a fourth term after more than a million supporters packed Copacabana beach.

Lula told the final debate his rival can 'memorize things' but cannot 'learn'.

Bolsonaro hit back: 'Lula doesn't even remember the last time he went grocery shopping.'

Over the past 18 months, right-wing candidates have taken seven consecutive Latin American elections.
