Bread Ahead stays at Borough Market after a threatened ban 'for being too successful', but owner says 'trust is gone'

Owner Matthew Jones has secured a contract keeping the bakery at the London site until 2028, after warning that around 83 jobs were on the line. Borough Market, a registered charity, had told Bread Ahead to 'wind down operations'. The order followed its plans for franchises in New York, the Middle East and Asia. Jones said the charity told him the bakery had been 'too successful'.

Jones branded the original eviction 'devastating' when he went public last month.

On Instagram he wrote: 'In a nutshell we won't be leaving anytime soon.'

The bakery is famed for sourdough, creme-filled doughnuts and queues snaking round the market.
