Bomb disposal experts were deployed to Park Street in Bristol after an alarm was raised by a member of the public at about 08:25 BST. Avon and Somerset Police established a 50m cordon covering Hill Street, St George's Road and Frogmore Street. Park Street, one of the city's busiest shopping streets, has been closed.

Police said the explosive ordnance disposal unit had been notified to conduct 'further enquiries'.

No arrest has been reported and the man seen leaving the item has not been identified.
