Britain deploys RAF Typhoon jets to defend Saudi Arabia against Houthi missile and drone attacks
Defence Secretary Wes Streeting described the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as 'absolutely despicable' following two strikes on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport that left 13 people dead. The Ministry of Defence has stated that the jets will not target the Iran-backed group or operate in Yemeni airspace. It is the largest military mission Prime Minister Andy Burnham has authorised. Streeting says the conflict is driving up costs for British households.
Britain will also send military advisers and an Atlas A400M transport aircraft to Saudi Arabia alongside the Typhoons.
RAF air-to-air refuelling for Saudi jets has been extended for another 90 days.
British pilots will now directly counter Houthi attacks, which could put them in harm's way.
