Britain lacks entrepreneurial spirit, Nvidia's Jensen Huang warns as he pledges $250m to UK AI research

Nvidia's $250m commitment arrives as the UK government confirmed its AI Security Institute will have access to review frontier AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google ahead of public launch. Analysts caution that deep dependence on a single American supplier risks ceding to Nvidia, rather than Britain, the power to define what "safe AI" actually means.
Forrester analyst Indranil Bandyopadhyay warned that researchers whose work centres on Nvidia's tooling may produce benchmarks that 'reflect that stack'.
The computing resources will be directed to Oxford, University College London, Imperial College London and the Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab, a joint venture run by Edinburgh, Cambridge, Oxford and UCL.
Chief executive Jensen Huang, described by his own biographer as 'the emperor of AI', joined President Trump at a White House AI event last week and has put the odds of AI destroying the world at 'zero percent'.
