The National Energy System Operator (Neso) has put out an electricity margin notice covering Tuesday evening, flagging an anticipated shortfall of 1,880 MW between 3pm and 11pm. Neso emphasised that the step is routine and precautionary, giving energy firms an opportunity to boost generation capacity ahead of the evening peak. Customer supplies face no risk and no power cuts are anticipated.

Neso called it a 'precautionary measure' to maintain sufficient buffer between supply and demand on the grid.

The notice invites market participants to bring additional generation online but stops short of compelling them to do so.

Neso withdrew a comparable notice last week after market companies moved to plug the shortfall.
