Britain's first transgender MP admits altering an image of her passport to get round her OWN gambling self-exclusion
Katie Wallis, 42, the former Conservative MP for Bridgend who in 2022 made history as the first openly transgender MP, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court to a Computer Misuse Act offence committed in April 2022 while she was still a sitting MP. She digitally altered her date of birth on a passport image to circumvent the Gamstop self-exclusion scheme she had voluntarily signed up to before her 2019 election.
Wallis deposited money into the gambling account she illegally accessed — and lost it all.
The court heard the offence was committed 'on impulse, at a time of acute psychological distress' and has not been repeated.
Wallis was acquitted on the more serious charges of possessing a false passport.
