Sir Christian Turner, Britain's ambassador to Washington, publicly rebuked President Trump at the King's Birthday Party at the British embassy, calling his repeated claims that London has lawless immigration-driven no-go areas "factually wrong." The envoy also rejected JD Vance's incendiary remarks blaming Henry Nowak's murder on "the mass invasion of migrants." The speech, delivered on Wednesday, came just days after PM Andy Burnham's first meeting with Trump was described as "very positive."
Trump warned last month that Britain would cease to exist as a nation if it failed to "stop people pouring into your country from all over the world."
The Duke of Edinburgh, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum were among guests at the embassy event where Turner delivered the rebuke.
Turner titled the passage of his speech 'Taking on the detractors', directly rejecting "distorted narratives and forces of division" in a pointed challenge to Washington's rhetoric.
