British grandmother drowns off Menorca trying to save granddaughter, 10, swept out to sea on the family's LAST DAY

A British grandmother, aged 69-70, drowned at Cavalleria beach in Menorca on Wednesday after plunging into rough seas to reach her granddaughter, whose small inflatable had been capsized by 30mph gusts and swept towards a rocky cove. Her husband dragged her lifeless body back to shore while other beachgoers used a rope torn from the beach's dune cordon to pull the mother and child to safety.
The grandfather was hospitalised with cuts after being battered against rocks; the girl and her mother were treated at the scene for severe anxiety attacks.
The family's villa was in Son Bou, and the tragedy unfolded on the last day of a week-long holiday, just hours before their scheduled flight home.
A Civil Guard investigation is ongoing; emergency responders including police, paramedics, firefighters and a maritime rescue helicopter all attended, but efforts to resuscitate the grandmother proved unsuccessful.
