Swiss police hunt gunman after woman, 22, is killed and five wounded at techno rave near Zurich
A gunman opened fire at a rave near Zurich at the Schachen horse racing track on the outskirts of Aarau, with police saying several shots were fired at a large group.
A Swiss woman aged 22 died and five others were hospitalised after a gunman opened fire at the Aarauer Rave, an annual techno party held at Aarau's horse racing track, 46km west of Zurich. The shooting erupted around 2:30am with roughly 3,500 partygoers present; witnesses described bursts of gunfire before someone shouted 'everyone down'. The five survivors — four men and a woman aged between 24 and 27 — suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious, and all six victims are Swiss residents.
Swiss DJ Tekibo, who performed at the rave, said on Instagram he had 'lost an important friend' and was 'still trying to process what happened'.
Police have cordoned off the horse racing track, a nearby swimming pool and sports field, with armed officers deployed up to 30km away and an army helicopter circling the town.
One witness told Swiss newspaper Blick they saw a 'shadow with an assault rifle' near the car park running towards the woods as panicked partygoers fled or hid under the DJ booth.
