British tourist, 34, suffers brain injury in 32ft fall after an old fishermen's cable snaps on a Portuguese cliff

The 34-year-old remained conscious, though Aljezur fire chief António Ângelo described his speech as 'incoherent'. He and a companion had been climbing rocks near Amado Beach in the Algarve, using guide cables that fishermen depend on to access Monte do Engenheiro, when one of the cables gave way. His friend called for help at around 3.30pm on Tuesday. Twenty firefighters and an air ambulance were dispatched, and he was airlifted to hospital in Faro.

No further update on his condition in hospital has been released.

British surfer Arran Strong, 28, vanished off nearby Arrifana beach in July.
