NHS trust running Broomfield Hospital is to face court over the sepsis deaths of girls aged three and two

Zadie Ajetunmobi, three, went without a potentially life-saving dose of intravenous antibiotics for more than seven hours and died within 10 hours of arriving at Broomfield in November 2022. Selina Samarina, two, was discharged by a 'very junior doctor' in April 2024 and was dead two days later. The Care Quality Commission alleges care 'not provided in a safe way'. Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is due at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court in December.

Zadie's family were told local sepsis guidance had not been updated since 2017.

A coroner said Zadie's death could have been 'prevented' if staff had followed national sepsis guidelines.

Her parents Theo and Rhiannon: 'This is a tragedy from which we will never recover.'
