Brussels demands UK accept ECJ oversight of migrant databases as the price of Burnham's Channel deal

The EU is insisting Britain hand oversight powers to the European Court of Justice as the condition for accessing its asylum and criminal databases, which were lost after Brexit. Andy Burnham is expected to pursue the agreement at a summit next month designed to draw the UK closer to Brussels. The bloc is also demanding a financial fee on top of the sovereignty concession.
Tory deputy leader Alex Burghart warns: 'You cannot put a price on sovereignty.'
The databases at stake include the Schengen Information System, giving real-time alerts on criminal suspects, and Eurodac, which holds fingerprint records of illegal migrants.
