Bryan Cranston says he is 'in deep despair' after Breaking Bad son RJ Mitte dies by suicide at 34
RJ Mitte and Bryan Cranston, who Cranston says he had been exchanging texts with in recent weeks and trying to arrange a catch-up before Mitte died by suicide on Monday, aged 34.
RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr in Breaking Bad, died by suicide at his home in Brownsville, Texas on Monday at age 34. Friends say he was "nearly broke", tormented by financial pressures that had cast a shadow over his wedding plans with fiancée Kennedy Suarez. His representative confirmed suicide as the cause of death.
Bryan Cranston, who played his on-screen father, wrote 'I'll miss you, son' — saying he had been texting Mitte and planning a lunch just days before his death.
Castmate Matt Jones revealed he bailed on a night out with Mitte at their last meeting in January 2025, writing 'I'm so sorry' in a public tribute.
In a final interview on October 5, just days before he died, Mitte said he could not watch Breaking Bad without spiralling — 'I dwell in it.'
