Bulgaria's president Iliana Yotova, who opposes military aid to Ukraine, faces a runoff after a pro-Western rival's late surge

Only 22.5% of Bulgarians bothered to vote, a record low for the country. Final Central Election Commission figures gave Iliana Yotova 34.76% against 31.95% for ex-caretaker PM Andrey Gyurov. Polls had put her just shy of the 50% needed to win outright. The pair will meet again on November 1 in a direct test of Prime Minister Rumen Radev's push for dialogue with Moscow.

Gyurov signed a security pact with Kyiv during his spell as caretaker prime minister.

He has challenged Yotova to an 'open, honest and civilised debate' before Sunday's vote.

Pro-Russian Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov came a distant third with 12.55%.
