Emergency crews and London's air ambulance were called to St Paul's Road, near Chand House in Barking, at around 11am on Saturday. The girl received treatment at the scene and was then taken by emergency services to a major trauma centre in London. Early reports suggested she was around six years old, but the Met has confirmed she was four. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The Met said its 'deepest sympathies are with the child's family and loved ones'.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to call 101, quoting reference CAD 2424/24OCT.
