Burnham's government is set to approve the Jackdaw gas field despite Labour's manifesto vow of no new North Sea licences
Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh and Chancellor John Healey are expected to make the announcement from Aberdeen on Wednesday morning. The decision was reportedly delayed until the Holborn and St Pancras by-election had passed, a contest in which Green leader Zack Polanski ran against Labour. Edinburgh's Court of Session ruled last year that both fields had been unlawfully approved.
Uplift's Tessa Khan says Jackdaw would meet 'just 2% of our gas demand'.
Donald Trump has urged Burnham to drill, claiming Britain is 'sitting on top of gold'.
