Andy Burnham told ITV's Good Morning Britain that Brexit has 'weakened our control' of immigration and blamed it for the small boats crisis. In June he promised Leave-voting Makerfield he would not 're-run' the Brexit arguments. His words leave open a return to Brussels from 2030, though he insists no election is coming 'any time soon'. He meets Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on November 20.

Nigel Farage branded Burnham's free movement overture a 'complete betrayal' of the 2016 referendum.

Angela Rayner insisted 'nothing off the table' in the Prime Minister's talks with Brussels.

Burnham on rejoining: 'We're way, way away from that at this particular moment.'
