Prime Minister Andy Burnham told ITV's Good Morning Britain he wants Britain back in the EU 'in my lifetime'. He claimed Brexit 'weakened our economy' and left 'weaker control' of borders because Britain 'can't return people'. He ruled out rejoining in this Parliament and said free movement would not return without a referendum. He will meet Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on November 20.
Sadiq Khan called rejoining the EU 'inevitable' after Burnham opened the door.
Eurosceptic ministers will reportedly be told to back rejoining or lose their jobs.
Burnham fought Leave-voting Makerfield promising not to 're-run' Brexit arguments.
