Anthony Carroll Sr, 57, of Glasgow's Milton, was jailed for four-and-a-half years after being put in charge of counting, storing and distributing dirty cash — with almost £20m amassed in just five months in 2020. His son Anthony Carroll Jr, 37, received three years, while Ryan Carberry, 46, Marc Cooper, 34, and Michael Monaghan, 37, were also sentenced, bringing the total to 16-and-a-half years.

All five were caught after police cracked the encrypted EncroChat phone network in 2020.

Judge Lord Scott told them: 'You each took part knowingly for months in a significant organised crime operation.'

All five were also handed serious crime prevention orders lasting up to five years.
