Andy Burnham defends the government's stockpiling advice and reveals his own emergency supply of beans, soup and Twiglets

Andy Burnham rejected claims the Government was playing catch-up, arguing that 'unexpected events seem to be becoming more and more common'. Storm Boelo has triggered a further amber wind warning covering Saturday into Sunday. Households have been advised to maintain a three-day reserve of drinking water and non-perishable food such as tinned goods for use in emergencies. The Prime Minister revealed that his own cupboard contains beans, soup and Twiglets.

Last month the National Audit Office warned that the UK's food supply chain faces significant vulnerabilities.

Burnham said people are 'allowed a glass or two' of wine in a crisis.

Housing Secretary Angela Rayner joked that her emergency kit would include Sauvignon Blanc.
