Bystander dies after a punch bag machine lands on him in a Liverpool fight as a Moroccan man, 22, is charged
Iliasse Alhag, 22, a Moroccan national of Percy Street, Toxteth, faces charges of affray, assault and wounding following an altercation on Berkley Street on October 29, in which a man in his 50s died four days later. The incident occurred outside a row of shops, and a witness told police the victim had played no part in the original disturbance.
The Crown Prosecution Service is now reviewing the charges in light of the death, meaning Alhag could face a more serious count.
Forensic officers were seen inside the Katma Barber shop, with an evidence tent pitched outside the Bon Cafe next door, where the altercation is believed to have started.
Detective Chief Inspector Alyson Keenan has urged anyone in the Berkley Street area at the time to contact Merseyside Police.
