California father, 72, shoots off-duty ICE agent after he passed out drunk on their lawn and attacked them both

David Gonzalez, a 32-year-old ICE agent from Texas, was found asleep on the front lawn of a Fresno family home at around 3am on Friday. When the homeowner tried to wake him, he turned aggressive. Gonzalez allegedly knocked the 72-year-old father to the ground and then attacked his daughter as she came to help, leaving both of them visibly injured. The father fired one shot into Gonzalez's stomach with his legally owned firearm; the daughter's boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, then appeared and handcuffed the agent before paramedics transported him to hospital in serious condition.

Fresno police confirmed the father faces no criminal charges, citing his legal firearm and genuine fear for his and his daughter's safety.

Gonzalez, whom ICE confirmed was off-duty and acting alone, faces felony charges including battery likely to cause great bodily injury and vandalism.

Fresno City Councillor Miguel Arias condemned the incident, warning: 'We have federal agents getting insanely drunk and passing out on random citizens' lawns.'
