California governor frontrunner Xavier Becerra returns a massive donation after the donor's father is exposed for deep CCP ties

California gubernatorial Democrat Xavier Becerra has returned a large donation after an investigation revealed the donor's father has extensive ties to the Chinese Communist Party. The disclosure landed just days before Tuesday's election, forcing Becerra's campaign into damage-limitation mode against Republican rival Steve Hilton.

A Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll shows Becerra leading Hilton 61% to 34% among likely voters, with his margin widening from 25 points in September.

Among Becerra's own supporters, fighting Trump administration policies outranks tackling California's cost-of-living crisis nearly two-to-one, at 62% versus 33%.
