Camden Council has made the pedestrianisation of Camden High Street permanent following an 18-month trial. Councillor James Slater pointed to zero traffic collisions recorded during the trial, compared with six collisions and eight casualties in the preceding year. The council is committing £1 million to Community Safety Officer patrols, and permanent barriers will replace temporary ones in early 2027.

Just 51 per cent of local residents supported the scheme, while 43 per cent ranged from strong disapproval to outright opposition.

Across monitored sites, air quality improved by an average 14.4 per cent reduction in harmful NO2 against the year before the trial began.
