Canadian tourist who downed '30 to 40' beers faces four years in prison for stealing Las Vegas flamingo

Mitchell Fairbarn, 34, of Ontario, grabbed Peachy — a 27-year-old Chilean flamingo — around the neck at the Flamingo Las Vegas at 5am on March 3 and took her up to his 14th-floor room. After roughly five hours of deliberations, a Clark County jury on Monday convicted him on felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. Peachy was found bleeding and missing seven or eight feathers. Sentencing is scheduled for December 1.

Fairbarn told the court that taking the bird was meant as a 'silly joke'.

His own lawyer, Joshua Tomsheck, called him a 'moron' but denied any malice.

A vet testified that Peachy has become more anxious in the presence of people.
