Canadian tourist who stole Las Vegas flamingo faces four years in prison after animal cruelty conviction

Mitchell Fairbarn, 34, of Ontario, now faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison following his conviction on felony and misdemeanour animal cruelty charges, after a Nevada jury deliberated for roughly five hours. He seized Peachy, a 27-year-old Chilean flamingo, from the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino at 5am on March 3, leaving the bird with missing feathers and blood injuries. Sentencing is set for December 1.

Fairbarn described the incident to jurors as a 'silly pranky joke' he thought was funny.

Security footage showed him carrying the squawking bird through an elevator and hallway.

Peachy's vet says the flamingo is now more anxious and nervous at checkups.
