Canadian tourist who took Peachy the flamingo to his Las Vegas hotel room is found guilty of animal cruelty
Mitchell Fairbarn, 34, of Ontario, now faces up to four years behind bars for the felony count after jurors also convicted him on a misdemeanour charge. He reportedly downed 40 beers before entering the bird's habitat at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on March 3. Prosecutors said he maliciously harmed Peachy. He stays under house arrest until sentencing on December 1.
Defence lawyer Josh Tomsheck called it a foolish act while intoxicated, with no harm meant.
Fairbarn broke down in tears while giving evidence in the witness box on Friday.
His lawyer told jurors that Fairbarn was remorseful and had no intention of hurting the bird.
