Rebecca Burwood, deputy manager at Bryn Yr Haul Care Home in Mold, North East Wales, groomed a 99-year-old woman over six years using emotional blackmail and coercion to steal £750,000. The pensioner had no family support after a fall when Burwood began calling her "nana" and manipulating her total dependence. Burwood secretly obtained Lasting Power of Attorney and had the woman sign over her £400,000 home, then withdrew £160,000 in cash and spent tens of thousands more on cosmetic surgery, a car, and a campervan. The Nursing and Midwifery Council tribunal has now struck her off the register.

A police investigation was launched but resulted in no charges after the pensioner declined to make a formal complaint, convinced that Burwood had 'learned from her mistakes'.

Burwood claimed the £9,000 campervan was for day trips together, and her home extension was so the elderly woman could stay with her during future lockdowns.

The tribunal heard, however, that the extension had already been paid for before any lockdown was announced.
