Care home boss who told staff their positive Covid tests were negative is CLEARED to return to nursing after seven residents died during pandemic

Joanne Burchell, the former manager of Holmesley Care Home in Sidford, Devon, where seven residents aged 70 to 102 died of Covid in 2021, has been cleared to return to nursing under a 12-month conditions of practice order. A Nursing and Midwifery Council panel found she told staff their positive lateral flow results were negative, let infected staff work and binned a Public Health England message asking if more staff were needed, saying 'we do not need their help'.
Police arrested Burchell and nurse Christos Provistallis, but prosecutors saw no realistic prospect of conviction.
Provistallis allegedly refused to wear a face mask at the home, claiming 'Covid was a conspiracy'.
'A licence for people to do exactly the same again,' said Wladek Koch, son of victim Stanislawa Koch.
