Care home boss struck off after stealing £750,000 from a vulnerable 99-year-old she called 'nana'

Rebecca Burwood, deputy manager at Bryn Yr Haul Care Home in Mold, North Wales, "weaponised" an elderly woman's trust over six years to steal more than £750,000, a Nursing and Midwifery Council tribunal found. She called the pensioner "nana", secured Lasting Power of Attorney without telling the care home, and had the woman sign over her £400,000 home before moving her into the facility. Burwood has now been struck off the nursing register.
The stolen money was spent on cosmetic surgery, a car, a campervan and a home extension.
Burwood told the isolated pensioner the campervan was for shared day trips, and justified the extension as somewhere the woman could stay during future lockdowns — despite the work being completed before any lockdown had been declared.
Police investigated but took no action after the pensioner, who believed Burwood had 'learned from her mistakes', refused to make a formal complaint.
