Led Zeppelin finally lets 'Stairway to Heaven' be used on screen after Greta Gerwig wins over Plant and Page with Narnia film
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have broken a decades-long embargo, licensing 'Stairway to Heaven' for the first time ever after Gerwig personally showed them an early cut of 'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew'. The director told Stephen Colbert the musicians agreed because of their shared love of C.S. Lewis, saying they 'saw the heart of the story in the film'. The Netflix adaptation is due in cinemas on 12 February 2027.
Previous refusals include Cameron Crowe's 'Almost Famous', 'Stranger Things' and the Simpsons — all turned away flat.
Page called Gerwig 'a powerhouse in the world of cinema' and said he was 'thrilled' she chose the song.
Gerwig says the track fits the story perfectly: 'It's about a spiritual journey, a path of fake idols and wrong roads you can go down.'
