Carla Lockhart quits as DUP party officer after leaders refuse to pull the plug on Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill

The Upper Bann MP wants Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly withdrawn, which would automatically topple O'Neill as First Minister. Lockhart argues the DUP cannot keep serving alongside O'Neill after she joined the allegedly unlawful Garvaghy Road protest in Portadown. DUP leader Gavin Robinson insists the party reached an 'agreed position' to stay put. Lockhart says 'profound consequences' must come faster.

Michelle O'Neill was interviewed by police in Belfast on Wednesday over the unnotified protest.

Lockhart refused to back Robinson, saying: 'I have confidence that the unionist people want action.'

She says someone inside the DUP leaked her resignation to the media.
